Our Story

How We Raise Our Animals

Our hogs grow slowly and finish with plenty of room to move. In their final month they come off a corn-and-soybean ration and onto a small grain diet, with space to exercise and time outdoors in the sun. That conditioning firms the meat, improves marbling, and deepens its color — and it is what separates these hogs from confinement pigs, and even from dirt-raised pigs finished hard on corn. The slower growth and that extra month of conditioning are why these animals carry a premium price.

How buying from a farm works

The producer sells you ownership in a live animal before slaughter. OMF only provides a separate custom-processing service.

The resulting custom-exempt product is for the owner's personal use and cannot be sold.

1.You buy the live animal

You purchase the animal — or a share of it — directly from the farm. Ownership transfers to you while the animal is still alive. You are not buying packaged meat.

2.We process it for you

Ozarks Meat Factory, or an OMF Verified Processor, processes your animal under the USDA custom exemption. You choose your cuts on the cut sheet.

3.It's yours, for your household

Custom-exempt product is marked "Not for Sale." It's for you, your family, your non-paying guests, or your employees — and it may not be resold.

This is not an order for packaged meat.

You are requesting to reserve a whole live animal. The producer will separately confirm the sale, transfer ownership before slaughter, and collect the animal purchase payment. OMF does not collect that payment. Processing must be scheduled and paid for separately.
