Butch · Your OMF Guide

First time buying a beef or hog from a farm?

It works differently than the grocery store — you buy the live animal from the farmer, then hire us to process it. I'll show you the whole thing in six quick steps, with a cost estimator.
Walk me through it

Local livestock marketplace

Know your farmer. Choose your animal. Process with confidence.

You are buying a live animal — not retail meat

This marketplace introduces you to the producer. Your live-animal purchase is directly from that producer and ownership must transfer to you before slaughter. OMF does not sell you the animal or packaged meat.

There are two separate transactions: (1) you pay the producer for the live animal or ownership share, and (2) you separately hire and pay OMF or another processor for custom processing.

Secure your meat for the future. Producers list animals months before they finish, so you don't have to wait until one is ready to claim it. Filter by when an animal will be ready, or follow the calendar to see what's coming, and reserve yours when the timing suits you.

1.Explore local farms

Meet approved producers and see what's ready now — and what's finishing months from now.

2.Reserve with the farmer

Choose an animal and send a reservation directly through the marketplace.

3.Plan your processing

After the producer confirms, schedule processing and select your custom cuts with OMF.

New here? Let the Producer Assistant help

Our AI assistant walks you through logging in, completing your farm profile, and posting your first animal listing — step by step. Bring your farm to the marketplace without the paperwork guesswork.

How buying from a farm works

The producer sells you ownership in a live animal before slaughter. OMF only provides a separate custom-processing service.

The resulting custom-exempt product is for the owner's personal use and cannot be sold.

1.You buy the live animal

You purchase the animal — or a share of it — directly from the farm. Ownership transfers to you while the animal is still alive. You are not buying packaged meat.

2.We process it for you

Ozarks Meat Factory, or an OMF Verified Processor, processes your animal under the USDA custom exemption. You choose your cuts on the cut sheet.

3.It's yours, for your household

Custom-exempt product is marked "Not for Sale." It's for you, your family, your non-paying guests, or your employees — and it may not be resold.

EarthRaised™ Farms

Rooted in the land. Raised to forage.

Some of the producers on this marketplace are EarthRaised™ farms. Their animals live on the land and eat from it, with the farmer providing the care, shelter, and supplemental nutrition they need. Look for the EarthRaised™ badge on listings, or use the EarthRaised™ farms only filter below.

They graze, root, and forage

Animals have access to the outdoors — pasture, woods, and open ground — where cattle graze, hogs root, and every animal can follow its natural instincts.

The land helps feed them

Grasses, plants, roots, seeds, and other naturally available foods are part of the diet, connecting what the animal eats to the land where it lives.

The farmer fills the gaps

Farmers provide shelter, water, care, and supplemental feed like hay or grain when the land needs help.

You may know it as "dirt-raised"

It's the same way of raising animals — on the ground and outdoors instead of in full-time confinement. We call it EarthRaised™ because the land isn't the dirty part of the story. It's the reason the meat tastes the way it does.

Founded in Missouri. Raised across America.

EarthRaised™ started here in Missouri and welcomes farms nationwide. EarthRaised™ isn't the same as grass-fed or organic. Every farm raises a little differently, so check the Raising Practices on each farm page or ask the producer before you reserve.
